Language is the identity of ethnicity and culture not only for the State of Tamil Nadu but our Institution too. The Department of Tamil has been teaching the language and literature, art, culture, civilization and so on. The Department came into existence from the year 2007. The Department Tamil is offering Degree Courses for students in both UG and PG Programmes. 187 Students are studying at present in B.Litt. and M.A. Tamil Literature.

The Department is equipped with 2 Assistant Faculty, 9 Guest Faculty and 5 Hourly-Basis Faculty. The Department has “Tamizh Peravai” named after “Aniladu Mundril” and through which numerous academic programmes are being conducted. The Department has conducted various seminars, workshops, conferences and debates. The Department has been recognized as a “Research Department” to pursue Doctoral Research in both Full-Time and Part-Time streams. The Department conducts online classes through which the faculties of Tamil have been conducting lectures for the students in the Covid-19 Pandemic lockdown period tentatively through various online platforms like Google Meet, Zoom App, and YouTube Channels.
